Once they were in the elevator, Ember felt more than a little self conscious. Sal was so eager to please and there was some odd sort of feedback she was getting, like echos and she couldn't quite understand why. It was right on the edge of conscious thought and the more she tried to pin it down...the more the thought wiggled away.

She ceased worrying at it and let her gaze wander over Jack. He was definitely handsome, but that only led to a lot of confusing thoughts as Ember had no idea what to do with that bit of information. "How long have you both been here?"

Who: Sally, Jack and Ember
What: Bump into each other
Where: The local 24-hour superstore
When: Tonight

"Oooh, I think we both need this." Sally grabbed a large bag of crisps off of the shelf and tossed it into the cart, ignoring Jack's look of disdain. "Shut up, you. I meant the night, not the crisps. But then, I think you may need some of them as well," she said, eyeing her friend. "You'd never know they took you off a double, what with all the studying and spellwork and everything else you've been doing. If it wasn't for me, I think you'd forget to eat at all. Must be a Finch thing."

Swinging into what she had christened "the booze aisle," Sally began perusing the available selection, trying to find the wine Jack fancied and the hard liquor she preferred. "You've been on about magic ever since you met with that girl - what was her name? Emma? Anyway, I think you're playing with a double-edged sword, no pun intended. You need to make sure you get some rest." She grabbed two bottles of wine, looked at Jack, pondered, then selected the red. "Thank god for Bad Film Night, eh?"

Gavril turned on his side and closed his eyes, hoping to go back to sleep. He'd been doing better for the past few days, but even that wasn't saying much. His 28 years had taught him that nighttime was the embodiment of chaos, and those who weren't prepared to deal with this fact usually didn't last long. He dozed mostly, but during his time in prison he was fairly sure that he had actually gone into a deeper sleep. He'd hoped to achieve that again tonight, even though he knew he'd have to break the habit again once they let him out. He'd take what he could get for now.

He was just begining to drift off when he heard a noise in the hallway.Collapse )

Katsu was beginning to think that the only humans who'd volunteered to live in Porter City were those with something to hide.

Now that he was settled into the rhythms and rules of his new home, he was able to re-establish client connections and help them with some of their pressing "human resources" issues within Porter's walls. Katsu missed the travel, but the pay more than made up for the loss of that perk. One of the nice things about working in the world's largest prison was the general understanding that increased risk justified higher rates. Had he known from the outset that jailhouse business was so lucrative, he would have split his time between Southeast Asian and Latin American penitentiaries.

Jon dug his claws into the brick of the low wall surrounding Annika’s house. He growled, low and rumbling, warning anyone in the area that this was his territory. There was something satisfying about that, to shed the suits and the slicked back hair, and just act like an animal for one night a month.

He would never admit to how much he liked it, of course.Collapse )

Please remember that tonight is the full moon. That means that EVERYONE not experiencing a transformation is to be INSIDE, with doors LOCKED and windows BARRED.

We understand that this is a lot to ask with the heatwave currently settling over the city, and so resident mages in the city have offered to cast cooling charms on the houses of anyone that requests it. While you are shut inside, it will be a cool 70F.

Please contact the PCPD before 8pm if you would like one of these charms.

Ember checked her reflection in the mirror by habit, not out of any real sense of vanity, but because she was feeling that absent minded and didn't want to wander out with her hair half spiked or anything stupid. The city had her feeling a bit off balance with so much leakage around her shields. She could strengthen them, but as tired as she was, that was just asking for a headache of massive proportions. And here, in Porter City, she didn't have her mum with her gift for easing them.

It was much hotter in Porter City than back home, so she chose a light sundress to avoid getting sweaty and overheated. She pulled on a pair of well fitted, thin cotton gloves and left the hotel room. Wishing for a bike, she flagged down a cab and gave him the address.

On the way there, Ember wondered if perhaps she wasn't being a bit brash, meeting someone like this. She wasn't exactly nervous, as she was more than able to take care of herself, but back home, she would never have suggested such a thing.

When she got to the restaurant, she looked around for a lanky, auburn haired man.

Ms. Day,

I find myself in desperate need of your advice and guidance. Can you please contact me at your earliest convenience. I need to pick your brain on the subject of mediums.
